Vehicle categories and the "two vignettes" rule
The obligation to have a vignette applies to all motor vehicles and trailers with a permissible total weight (GVW) of up to 3.5 tons.
In Switzerland, the rule is: 1 vehicle = 1 vignette. If you are towing a caravan or a freight trailer, you must buy TWO separate vignettes (one for the car, one for the trailer). The absence of a vignette on the trailer results in the same fine as the absence of a vignette on the car.
